There are a variety of ways to utilize Aspen Mulling spices. Here are a few of our favorite recipes.
Drinks: Aspen Mulling spices can be great mix-in ingredients for your favorite drinks. Whether you like your drinks cold and refreshing, or hot and cozy, Aspen Mulling has the flavor you didn’t realize you were missing!
Seasonal Recipes made with Original Cider Spices
Add to these drinks:
Mixture of ginger ale, orange and lemon juices
Grapefruit juice warmed in the microwave
Hot or iced coffee
Apple cider and ginger brandy
Add to these meals:
Sprinkle on your cereal, freshly baked donuts, corn bread, or your favorite pastry.
Dot roasted squash with spices and butter
Add to mulligatawny or lentil soup
Any spice blend can be substituted equally for the sugar in your favorite recipe.
Smuggler Mountain Dressing:
½ cup salad oil / 4 tbsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice / ½ tsp salt (to taste) / ½ tsp Aspen Original Cider Spice Blend / 3 tbsp orange juice / 4 tbsp fresh chopped parsley / 1 tbsp fresh chopped mint / pinch of cayenne
Whisk all ingredients together and refrigerate. This will keep for 2-3 days. Try it on a salad or your favorite chopped raw veggies!
Rum and Aspen Apple Sauce:
6 large granny smith apples / 1/3 cup water or apple juice / 1 lemon / 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar / 2 tbsp hot buttered run mix / 3 tbsp dark rum or 2 tsp rum flavoring / 2 tbsp butter
Peel, core, and slice apples. Place into a large saucepan with water or apple juice. Grate ½ tsp lemon zest into the pan, set lemon aside. Cover and cook apples over low heat, about 30 minutes, until very tender. Stir occasionally. Mash apples with potato masher and add 1-2 tbsp lemon juice. Stir in sugar, hot buttered rum mix, rum or rum flavoring, and butter. Taste and adjust seasonings. Simmer uncovered until thickened, about 10 minutes.
